Tragedy and Hope: Rebuilding the Ark For animal lovers everywhere

Laura Dion-Jones and George Rawlinson, in cooperation with WRMN 1410 AM Radio, present a very special show Wednesday, March 23, from 9 to 10 a.m.

"Tragedy and Hope: Rebuilding the Ark" tells the story of Ark R.A.I.N., a wildlife sanctuary in Brownsville, Tennessee. Late last year, 56 animals died during a devastating fire that also engulfed the home of the founders, Tim and Toni Davies, both former Elgin-area residents.

While they escaped with only minor injuries, the fire also destroyed almost everything other than the clothes on their backs, including necessary supplies to take care of the surviving animals.

Tim Davies said that he and his wife were only eligible for minimal fire insurance because of the exotic animals they housed.

Dozens of the animals sheltered outside the house did survive, including arctic foxes, badgers, a lion, two tigers, and Tucker the kangaroo, a longtime family favorite.

Ark R.A.I.N. is well known nationally for providing permanent homes to exotic animals that had been abused, neglected or illegally owned.

The not-for-profit animal sanctuary is trying to rebuild from the ground up. Wednesday's radio show is the first major media step in that direction.

Please listen to "Tragedy and Hope: Rebuilding the Ark." Learn more about the surviving animals and also how you can help with a fully tax deductible donation to Ark R.A.I.N.

That's "Tragedy and Hope: Rebuilding the Ark" on WRMN 1410 AM Radio, Wednesday, March 23, 9 - 10 a.m.
