This story is in honor of the gal from Idaho who just won half of the second largest lotto prize in US history, and anyone else having a marital meltdown:
Pat knew for a long time that her clairvoyant gift was a curse as well as a blessing. It started about as far back as she could remember. With little things.
"Don't go in the water right now, Anna!"
"Why not, scaredy-catty-Patty," Anna teased back.
"Just don't! Wait 'til later."
Undaunted, Anna waded in up to her waist. "C'mon in Patty! It's so war...yee-ouch!" Anna screamed rushing back to shore. "Ow-weee! Somethin' bit my foot!"
Then there was the time in high school when Jolie was selling chances for a brand new '77 Chevy Impala for her church raffle. Patty just knew if she waited to buy her ticket until the last second, right before the drawing, she'd win.
Pat drove that '77 Chevy way past law school, right up until she moved to New York and took a job with one of the city's top firms.
So, it should have come as no real surprise to her when, for no apparent reason, her car pulled into Harry's mini-mart on her way to the Hamptons, and she bought those lottery tickets. Pat never pinned her hopes on "hitting the big one," like so many of her friends did. "What the hell?" she mused, as she plunked down her money.
That Saturday night, right after a wonderfully romantic, candle-lit dinner, Patty's husband calmly asked her for a divorce.
He was sorry and all. Even cried some. Said she could keep their TriBeCa loft and the house on The Pond. He just needed to move on and his plans didn't include her.
Funny, she hadn't seen it coming - not this time, anyway. But, when the blonde on the TV slowly drawled out the numbers as those six shiny, white balls rolled across the screen, her tears of despair at once turned to pure joy!
"$107 million lump sum, after taxes! I wonder if he'll want half?" she said to no one in particular.
"Seems like I'll be the one moving on . . ."
