“Winning is not a sometime thing; It's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time.”
Vince Lombardi
(1913-1970, American Football Coach)
Goals give your life direction, help you do things right all the time and provide you with a roadmap to success in whatever you choose to do. Eating healthier, losing weight, getting more fit, finding a job, you name it – setting goals the S.M.A.R.T. way will surely get you where you want to go.
S = Specific: Define in detail what you want to achieve. What result are you trying to reach? What are you looking for?
M = Measurable: A measurable goal allows you to keep track of your progress. It tells you how much and how many of something you need to produce or do to succeed.
A = Accountable/Achievable: Set realistic goals that will challenge you. Goals you know you can accomplish once you put your mind to it. Who is accountable for your success if not you? If you constantly reach your goals without any difficulty, you’re setting your sights too low. You’re not setting your goals high enough. You need to work and stretch into your goal.
R = Results oriented: Set your goals to focus on what needs to be done – and do it. If you set your goals so high that they’re unattainable, you’ll get discouraged and give up.
T = Time-limit: All your goals should have a time limit, a target date for accomplishment. Long-term goals can cover 12-months to 10 years or more. I recommend you set goals no longer than 12 months at a time.
Short term goals cover periods from a month up to 6 months.
Mini-goals are quickly achieved in as little as a week to 10 days.
Long term goals, short term goals and mini goals all work together to make a results oriented, successful plan of action.
Stop being such a whuss. Get ‘er done!
